Demon Slayer Chapter 132: Demon Slayer Chapter 132: Full Strength Training - Tanjiro's Hashira Training and Sanemi's Brutality
Demon Slayer Chapter 132, titled "Full Strength Training," throws Tanjiro Kamado into the demanding and brutal world of Hashira Training, where he faces the unique and often unforgiving training methods of the Demon Slayer Corps' most powerful members, particularly the ruthless Sanemi Shinazugawa. After making a full recovery from his previous battles, Tanjiro eagerly participates in Hashira Training, more enthusiastic than most. Tengen Uzui, the former Sound Hashira, greets his former companion and is impressed by Tanjiro's feat of killing another Upper Rank demon before ordering him to run, which Tanjiro gleefully obeys. Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma, Tengen's wives, also extend their greetings to the young Demon Slayer as they distribute food, creating a warm atmosphere amidst the rigorous training. After ten days, Tanjiro successfully passes Tengen's grueling stamina training and is granted permission to move to the next stage. In Muichiro Tokito's mansion, he and Tanjiro spar at incredible speeds, with Muichiro providing lessons on attacking quickly while sustaining strength. The other trainees are amazed to see someone, especially a lower-ranked slayer, match the Hashira's movements, highlighting Tanjiro's rapid growth and innate talent.
After five days of intense training, Muichiro grants Tanjiro permission to proceed, his demeanor bright and cheerful towards him, and Tanjiro is astonished by his own progress. However, when other trainees ask for Muichiro's permission to proceed after two weeks, his previously aloof and unemotional face resurfaces, sternly criticizing their lack of progression, showcasing his strict nature as a mentor. At Mitsuri Kanroji's mansion, Tanjiro reunites with the Love Hashira, who is similarly ecstatic to see him. From the comforting smell of her home, Tanjiro learns that Mitsuri keeps bees to harvest honey, which she uses to top pancakes, revealing a charming aspect of her personality. For her training stage, participants must don skimpy attire and dance to music as part of flexibility exercises, which involve Mitsuri using her potent strength to stretch the participants into painfully challenging positions, emphasizing her unique approach to training. After completing flexibility training, Tanjiro arrives at Obanai Iguro's mansion, where the Serpent Hashira ominously awaits him. Tanjiro attempts to express his excitement, but Obanai silences him, angry at the happiness Mitsuri experienced during her training with Tanjiro, leaving the young Demon Slayer feeling anxious and intimidated.
Inside his mansion, Obanai has numerous trainees tied to posts strewn across the training room. When Tanjiro questions if they are guilty of something to be treated so harshly, Obanai coolly claims they are guilty of "being weak, not learning, being a pain in the butt, and irritating me." Tanjiro spars with Obanai using a wooden sword, which, despite being made of wood, would nonetheless inflict pain if struck. The Hashira employs his unusual fighting style, weaving attacks between the tied victims and striking his opponent, all while Tanjiro must retaliate without hitting anyone, worsening his already difficult task. To add to the challenge, Tanjiro can hear the inner thoughts of the tied trainees, silently praying not to be hit. Despite the immense difficulty, Tanjiro makes significant progress, able to attack more accurately than ever and even fend off Obanai. After four days, upon landing a strike on Obanai's clothing, the Serpent Hashira orders him to leave, acknowledging his progress. On his way to Sanemi Shinazugawa's mansion, Tanjiro is startled by Zenitsu Agatsuma, who suddenly grabs him, begging for help to escape the brutal stage. Sanemi himself then appears, grabbing Zenitsu and angrily yelling at the trainee to choose between training or dying, before ordering Tanjiro to carry Zenitsu and follow his lead. As Tanjiro remarks on his excitement to train, Sanemi coldly tells him not to get carried away, stating his dislike for him. Tanjiro, remembering when Sanemi stabbed Nezuko multiple times to prove she was a danger, retorts that he doesn't like him either, earning the Wind Hashira's intense ire. Sanemi's training involves participants sparring directly against him, a seemingly straightforward task that becomes immensely difficult due to Sanemi's brutal and relentless fighting style, only stopping when trainees vomit blood or lose consciousness. Tanjiro remarks that even Obanai, despite his harshness, gave him more breaks. Sanemi is especially hard on Tanjiro, using any brief lapse in concentration to attack him, leaving his face covered in large, bloody bruises. Following his first dismal training session, Tanjiro slinks to his room, disheartened, when he hears Genya Shinazugawa's voice. Genya attempts to speak with his older brother, Sanemi, but Sanemi angrily claims he doesn't have a brother, threatening to kill him if he speaks again, as Tanjiro silently watches the painful commotion, ending the chapter on a tense and dramatic note, highlighting the strained relationship between the Shinazugawa brothers amidst the brutal Hashira Training Arc of the Demon Slayer manga.
