Demon Slayer Chapter 160: Demon Slayer Chapter 160: Similar Features, Returning Memories - Inosuke's Past, Kotoha's Sacrifice, and Doma's Cruelty Unveiled
Demon Slayer Chapter 160, titled "Similar Features, Returning Memories," delves into Inosuke Hashibira's tragic past, revealing his connection to Upper Rank Two, Doma, and the devastating truth behind his mother, Kotoha Hashibira's sacrifice. Doma questions if he and Inosuke have met before, a statement Inosuke angrily denies, demanding his mask back. However, Doma insists he recognizes him. Inosuke reflects on a vague memory of Shinobu Kocho, hoping to ask her about it. When Kanao Tsuyuri tries to lead Inosuke away, dismissing Doma's words as nonsense, Doma is offended, proudly stating his seriousness and clear memory, even from his human life. In a gruesome display, Doma pierces his own skull, extracting a specific memory to retell. Fifteen years prior, a young, abused woman, around 17-18 years old, with a baby, sought refuge at Doma's Eternal Paradise Faith. She had no family or other place to go. Doma recalls her severely swollen, partially blind face from her husband's beatings, but upon his touch, her face miraculously healed, leaving a lasting impression on the apathetic demon, and noting her striking resemblance to Inosuke, he concludes she must be his mother, a revelation that shatters Inosuke's denial of having a human mother, much to Doma's amusement in the thrilling narrative of the Demon Slayer manga.
Inosuke, enraged, charges forward, preparing Beast Breathing: Sixth Fang, but Doma, declaring their encounter a miracle, simultaneously slashes Inosuke's chest twice, forming an X-shaped mark. Doma quickly summons more ice, knocking both Demon Slayers into the cult room's pond. As Kanao urges Inosuke to calm down, Doma continues his story. He admits he had no intention of devouring Kotoha, finding her beautiful presence enjoyable. Though he considered her unintelligent, Kotoha proved observant, soon discovering Doma's practice of devouring his followers. Confronting his lies, Kotoha fled the temple with baby Inosuke, apologizing profusely for her mistakes and repeatedly getting lost in the forest. Cornered at a cliff's edge, she tearfully apologized to Inosuke one last time before dropping him into the water below to save him. Doma, believing the baby died, killed Kotoha shortly after, eating her to the bone. He mockingly rationalizes her death, claiming she would have been beaten by her husband or died alone on the road, questioning if she ever experienced happiness and calling her existence pointless. Kanao furiously tells him to silence himself. As Inosuke retrieves his fallen swords from the water, he is flooded with memories of his mother's love. Doma remarks, "It truly is a miracle, meeting you here." Now consumed by a burning rage, Inosuke declares, "The demon who killed his mother and my friends is right before my eyes." He stands, thanking Doma for forcing him to remember everything, and vows not just to decapitate him, but to show him "what true hell is like," taking a fighting stance to confront Upper Rank Two in a battle fueled by vengeance and a rediscovered past in the climactic Infinity Castle Arc of the Demon Slayer manga.
